Why us?

Foster Carer Training and Development

Team Fostering is fully committed to promoting the professionalism of foster care and the continuous development of our foster families through comprehensive training.

Comprehensive
Training Opportunities

All of our foster carers have access to a wide range of training and development opportunities. These programs help foster carers develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide the best outcomes for children and young people in their care.

Innovative Training Programme

Our innovative training programme begins with initial preparation training to support foster carers through the approval process. From induction to core training, our programmes are delivered by internal and external experts, ensuring the highest standard of foster carer education.

National Minimum Standards & Induction Training

In accordance with the National Minimum Standards for Fostering Services 2011, all foster carers must complete ‘The Induction Standards for Foster Care’ (TSDS) within their first year. This training covers essential competencies and skills that foster carers need to deliver the highest quality care for children with complex needs.

KEY POINTS

A Comprehensive Overview

At Team Fostering, we reinvest financial surpluses into the agency to consistently provide children and young people with the best possible care. This ensures foster carers are well-supported in their roles.

If you’re invited to become a foster carer with Team Fostering, you will attend our pre-approval training course, ‘Skills to Foster.’ This 3-day course is delivered at one of our local offices and is a key part of your preparation to become a foster carer.

The Secure Base Model is a framework that helps foster carers provide a safe, nurturing environment for children and young people. It emphasises building positive relationships to help children develop trust, confidence, and emotional security. The model focuses on five key dimensions: availability, sensitivity, acceptance, cooperation, and family membership. These dimensions support children in overcoming past trauma and building secure attachments, enabling them to thrive in their foster placements.

Personal development plans (PDP)

All foster carers are given their own Personal Development Plan (PDP) which is designed to highlight specific training needs and opportunities. PDP’s are updated annually at foster carers’ reviews to reflect current and future training requirements and provide an accurate record of all training and professional development.

Training and learning portfolio

Over time, foster carers build their own Training and Learning Portfolio to sit with their PDP. In the portfolio they are expected to collate ongoing evidence of their training and professional development throughout their fostering career. Team Fostering will also tailor a pathway of advanced training opportunities through each Personal Development Plan for foster carers who work within a specialist area of fostering, and for those who wish to progress onto higher level qualifications.
